Snarky Puppy won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance.

Jan. 27, 2014, midnight

Snarky Puppy
, a 10-year-old jazz band that originated in Denton, won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. It was the band’s first Grammy nomination and award.

Markbass top-artist and band leader Michael League was breathless after the announcement that Snarky Puppy had won, he said “I was shocked. I was completely blown away."

Snarky Puppy was nominated for its song “Something” featuring soul singer Lalah Hathaway, here the video from Snarky Puppy’s live DVD/CD called Family Dinner – Volume One:

Micheal thanked the 12 band members who flew to Los Angeles for the show, saying“… They’ve spent the last 10 years with me, eight of them touring very unglamorously on the road and sleeping on floors and couches. To be here right now is completely unimaginable."

Despite the band’s international success, especially in 2013, League said the Grammy is career-changing. “In a way it’s unfortunate that an award can alter a career. We’re not any better of a band right now than we were yesterday. But the level of visibility that a Grammy affords you changes everything,”

Congratulation to Michael League and the band from everyone at Markbass... happy and proud to have you in our artist family!
